This is so cute and a great beginner sewing project
I made this with 3 layers of Flannel but 2 layer would be enough as well
Flannel Fabric - Can substitute with design or colors of your choice
2 yards Baby Dragon Flannel Fabric 1037 - cut 12 strips 6 inch wide
1 yard Solid Aqua Heavy Flannel OA-6631 - cut 9 strips 4 inch wide
1.25 yard Aqua Bubbles Flannel 0325-11 - cut 9 strips 5 inch wide
0.75 yard Solid White Flannel - Navy Blue or Black - cut 9 strips 3 inch wide
Lay the 3 layers of strips out in the order you want them to appear - I like to sew two at a time then sew them each together - really no need to sew the X or line these are small enough that sewing the ends will keep them together
Lay 3 Baby Dragons on top of each other - one facing down, two facing up - same with the second strip of solid aqua - lay the bottom sides facing each other sew 1/2 inch seam allowance - I usually start at the right end and sew down - have the next two rows laid on top of each other and chain sew down til all sewn togethers -
next sew the first two rows to the next two rows - etc etc
then the 4 rows to the next 4 rows and sew the last baby dragon / main fabric 6 inch strip to the bottom one - made sure the fringe is on top and the baby dragon facing down -
sew them all together - then trim the right side even if any edge sticking out or uneven
If you want more fringe on the outer edge - you can cut 1 inch strips of flannel [any solid color] and add to the outer edge middle and pin - or leave as is - top stitch 1/2 inch seam allowance all the way around - now sit in front of the TV with your clippers and clip all the seams in 1/8 inch, 1/4 inch widths to add the fringe, which will fray and "rag" when washed
Finished blanket size roughly 42 inch x 47 inch - can add rows if want bigger but this is a good baby to 3 year old toddler size blanket for floor play, nap time or snuggle time
Pick any color - and you can reduce the yardage if you only want to make it a 2 layer blanket if you want - pick any fabrics - I will have and post a few other designs - play with the width and the fabric choices - these are great easy fun and plenty to ooh and ahh over at any baby shower
Here is what the back looks like - - Just love these
